Pet policy
Furry friends
We love furry companions. To keep things safe and happy for all humans and animals on site, we ask all pet owners to read and agree to the following Pet Policy.
Awareness
We think itās important you know the following.
Tredethick Farm Cottages is located on a peaceful 80-acre farm. The land is a mixture of pasture, wildflower meadows, woodland with a stream, and agricultural land where we grow a crop of miscanthus biofuel. As a family friendly holiday cottage venue, there are several children on site all the time who may be outdoors playing.
We keep the following farm animals on the land as treasured pets (the āFarm Animalsā): chickens, goats, pigs, guinea pigs and a cat. Sometimes ponies and lambs.
The paddock animals are usually kept in their paddocks. However, the fences have large gaps, so the animals sometimes roam the site freely until we return them. The paddocks are also very easy for dogs to enter. When they are not in the paddocks, the Farm Animals live in the animal barn.
The Farm Animals are not used to having dogs around. In addition to your pet, other dogs will most likely be staying on site in other cottages. We therefore ask everyone to handle this thoughtfully so that all the animals and humans can coexist happily.
The cottages have a mixture of hard floors and carpets, so we ask owners to confirm that all pets are house-trained.
Owner responsibility
- Your pet remains your full responsibility at all times during your stay.
- Having valid pet insurance is highly recommended.
- If your pet causes disruption, including excessive noise, aggression or stress to others, we will need to discuss with you how this can be managed.
Safety and no-go areas
To help keep both the Farm Animals, small humans, and your pet safe and happy, we ask that:
- Dogs stay away from all Farm Animals and animal paddocks, including for animal feeding sessions.Ā
- There is no meeting, sniffing, chasing or greeting of Farm Animals.
- Dogs remain on a lead at all times around the Farm Animals, including on the driveway, in the cottage courtyard.
- Dogs do not enter any animal areas or barns.
- No pets enter the swimming pool or hot tub.
- Any dogs staying at Tredethick Farm Cottages must not be a large dangerous dog (as classified under the dangerous dogs act), or shown any sign of agression towards humans.
Map and dog-walking areas
There is an abundance of space on site, with plenty of dog-friendly places where you may be able to walk your dog off-lead. Dogs may become excited by the space and run off, so please keep them close to you. A number of dogs have gone missing in the area, so please keep a close eye on your dog, including in off-lead areas.
The map below indicates some wonderful places to walk your dog, including:
- through the woods, after passing through the gate from the pony paddock, then out on the other side, up the hill with its beautiful view and around the land beyond the woods;
- the orchard and wind-turbine field; and
- the other fields indicated on the map.

Hygiene and waste
We ask that you:
- are mindful of muddy paws.
- bag all pet waste and place it in the general-waste bin;
- do not put pet-waste bags in the compost;
- use the available vacuum cleaners if your pet sheds an excessive amount of fur.
