Top 5 Things to do with Toddlers in Cornwall

Posted on: 19th September 2016

It sounds a little cliché, but it’s very true that kids grow up so fast. You only get so many chances to enjoy quality time as a family when they are very young; to collect treasured memories to hold on to forever. Despite multitudes of families everywhere feeling this way, many still struggle to find really great, fun family holiday spots that are full of family fun that even the youngest children can happily take part in. If you make Tredethick Farm Cottages and our corner of Cornwall your destination, we guarantee that you’ll find such activities more easily. Here is a list of five great toddler-friendly activities in nearby Cornwall.

  1. Bodmin and Wenford Railway (Bodmin)

This railway attraction has been a family favourite with both locals and tourists alike for many years. The railway runs scheduled passenger trains 220 days per year, as well as other services at its main stations all year round (see their website for more detailed timetables). Two of the steam engines they operate date back to 1874 and 1899, and are still in perfect working order. Ride the old trains and take in the sights and sounds of local heritage and Cornwall’s natural beauty all around. The line also operates special kids activities, including Santa and Christmas fun family activities each year.

  1. Kidzworld (Par, outside St. Austell)

Located in Par, just outside the town of St. Austell, Kidzworld is already an award-winning play centre, offering more than 20,000 square feet of unbeatable family fun. Most of the play areas at Kidzworld are covered, so it is an ideal choice for any day on which Mother Nature is not playing fair with the weather. They have a range of great deals and discount rates depending on the time of year, so take the time to explore their website (link above) and see what rates they have during your stay with us in Cornwall. What’s more, Kidzworld has a special separate area for babies and toddlers, offering a calming “sensory zone” and special safe play designed to promote their fine and gross motor development.

  1. Dragon Leisure Centre (Bodmin)

Another great option for a rainy day is the Dragon Leisure Centre, which offers a heated indoor pool, a learner pool, family play sessions and much more. There is also a soft play area and other sports activities for any older kids in the family. While they have many programs on offer, they are not all offered every day, so we advise you to plan ahead by looking through their website information.

  1. Cardinham Woods (Bodmin)

Covering 650 acres of glorious natural woodland, Cardinham promises an amazing outdoor experience for everyone in your family, young or old. Indoor play centres and leisure centres are great for bad weather days, but when the sun is out, you should give your young ones the chance to experience the glories of the Cornish outdoors. Cardinham has miles of tracks and paths for you to explore, as well as the superb Woods Café, and a play area for the kids to enjoy while you relax. They also have a picnic area, where there are free barbecues on offer in the warmer months.

  1. Encounter Cornwall (Lostwithiel and other locations)

This unique outdoor activity in Cornwall is not necessarily something that some families would consider great for their young children to take part in — but it is! With Encounter Cornwall, you can take amazing guided kayak trips around the local area. It’s safe for kids of all ages, as the group not only has fully trained local expert guides, but their kayaks are also nearly impossible to tip or fall out of. Parents and young ones can ride in the same boat, and enjoy the both calming and fascinating experience of traversing Cornwall’s waterways.
