An environment worth conserving
We’re lucky enough to live in a gloriously unspoilt part of Cornwall and we want to keep it that way. We’re passionate about conserving the environment and, by staying here, you’ll be having an eco-friendly holiday without even realising it.
All the central heating, hot water and heating for our indoor pool is powered by a biomass boiler – using our own energy crop grown on the farm. More than 75% of our electricity is provided by a micro wind turbine and solar panels on the roof of our energy crop store. If, aesthetically, wind turbines aren’t your thing, don’t worry. There’s a woodland between the Gaia turbine and your cottage that hides them from view. However, if you love them, there’s a waymarked footpath you can take that leads right up to it. The remaining 25% of energy needed on-site comes from renewable sources too.
If you’re here out of season – and staying in one of the cottages with a wood burner – you’ll be using logs from trees planted on the farm. We’ve planted more than 14,000 so it’s going to take a long time for the logs to run out! We encourage all our guests to recycle where possible – and provide recycling and food waste points.
We support local suppliers and choose organic produce where possible. Much of the produce in our farm shop – from our apple juice to our sausages, butter, yogurt and organic ice cream – is locally produced.
Real Food Box, based at Trevilley Farm, Newquay, deliver to Tredethick on Fridays. They specialise in fresh fruit and vegetables as well as delivering dairy, bakery items, meat and wholefoods. Order online (www.realfoodbox.co.uk) or call them on 01637 873756. Arriving later on Friday? No worries, they’ll drop your box in your cottage and pop chilled products in the fridge. If you are ordering more than one week in advance of your arrival, please place your order and then email firstname.lastname@example.org with your order number and date of arrival.
You can charge your electric car on the farm, using our EV charger, for a one-off weekly fee of £50.
We get great joy from our surroundings – the beautiful woodland, wild flowers, open meadows and wildlife-filled hedgerows. We hope you do too.
